Nahid Boustani
Biography
Nahid Boustani a Persian-American artist who contributes her art to the arduous practice of staying present. Persian Calligraphy has been her family heritage and her main tool to share the spirit of art experienced in conscious presence.
She started her journey of calligraphy around 2013; which was in fact a return to an ancient art she was introduced to during her childhood. Calligraphy as a sacred art and a highly revered one_ and a contemplative and meditative practice which is known for its transformative and tranquil effects_ had a special place in her early life and upbringing.
Most of what appears in her art are poetic expressions which can transfer the viewer to a dimension often lost in our busy lives hence making powerful reminders of the divine while being visually attractive.
To stay true to the ancient nature of this art, though her style stays contemporary, she only uses the ancient tools of a wooden pen and ink. She admire simplicity and the space it creates for other things to exist and be noticed and felt; the space it holds for the birth of new ideas.
“There is a space where creation pours and it pours until we grow weary of receiving it. In this space, I express myself.” ~Nahid
Nahid Boustani lived the first half of her life in the Northern province of Iran and later studied Computer Science and Systems Engineering as her career. Calligraphy however, was a soul calling and, though she did not pursue the traditional degrees of calligraphy, she rigorously taught herself on all aspects of it.
Her work has been exhibited in multiple group exhibitions across the united states and Europe, and she continues to hold workshops and classes for enthusiasts in the DMV area.
